Ingredients (Makes 9 squares)
Unsalted butter – 115g (½ cup), melted
White sugar – 150g (¾ cup)
Brown sugar – 50g (¼ cup)
Cocoa powder – 40g (⅓ cup), unsweetened
All-purpose flour – 70g (½ cup)
Eggs – 2 large
Vanilla extract – 1 teaspoon
Salt – ¼ teaspoon
Optional add-ins – chocolate chips, walnuts, espresso powder
Instructions
1. Preheat your oven & prepare pan (5 minutes)
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
Line an 8x8 inch (20x20 cm) baking pan with parchment paper.
2. Mix the base (3–4 minutes)
In a bowl, mix 115g melted butter, 150g white sugar, and 50g brown sugar until combined.
Whisk in 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla extract until glossy.
3. Add dry ingredients (2 minutes)
Sift in 40g cocoa powder, 70g flour, and ¼ tsp salt.
Mix until no dry spots remain—don’t overmix.
Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if using.
4. Bake (20–25 minutes)
Pour into the pan and smooth the top.
Bake for 20–25 minutes or until the top is set and a toothpick comes out with moist crumbs (not wet batter).
Let cool for 10 minutes before slicing.
