How to make French Toast – Easy Recipe for Beginners
This isn’t your sad cafeteria French toast.
This is golden, cinnamon-scented, weekend-worthy, TikTok-photo-level toast. Takes 15 minutes, uses leftover bread, and makes your house smell like brunch heaven.
Ingredients (Serves 2 hungry people)
Thick bread slices – 4 (about 60g each, preferably a bit stale)
Eggs – 2 large
Milk – 120ml (½ cup)
Sugar – 1 tablespoon (13g)
Vanilla extract – ½ teaspoon
Cinnamon – ¼ teaspoon (optional but highly recommended)
Butter – 1 tablespoon (for frying)
Toppings – maple syrup, berries, powdered sugar (go wild)
Instructions
1. Make the custard mix (2 minutes)
In a bowl, whisk together:
2 eggs, 120ml milk, 1 tbsp sugar, ½ tsp vanilla, and cinnamon (if using).
2. Soak the bread (1–2 minutes)
Dip each slice of bread into the egg mix. Let it soak for about 15–20 seconds per side—just enough to get it soggy, but not falling apart.
3. Fry it up (6–8 minutes total)
Heat 1 tbsp of butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
Fry 2 slices at a time, 3–4 minutes per side, until golden brown and slightly crisp on the edges.
4. Serve hot (and fast)
Stack ’em. Top with syrup, fruit, whipped cream, whatever brings you joy.
Eat immediately for max crisp + fluff balance.
Pro Tip
Use brioche or challah if you’re feelin’ fancy. Dry/stale bread holds up better and soaks more flavor.
