How to Make Banana Bread – Easy Recipe for Beginners

This loaf is soft, sweet, golden, and smells like you know what you’re doing with your life.

Takes just 10 minutes of mixing, then bakes while your kitchen turns into a bakery.

Ingredients (Makes 1 loaf, about 8 slices)

Overripe bananas – 2 medium (about 200g peeled)
All-purpose flour – 150g (1¼ cups)
Brown sugar – 100g (½ cup)
Egg – 1 large
Unsalted butter (melted) – 60g (¼ cup)
Baking soda – 1 tsp
Salt – ¼ tsp
Vanilla extract – 1 tsp
Optional add-ins – chocolate chips, chopped walnuts, cinnamon

Instructions

1. Preheat & prep (5 minutes)
Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F).
Grease a loaf pan or line it with parchment paper.

2. Mash the bananas (2 minutes)
In a large bowl, mash 200g ripe bananas with a fork until mostly smooth.

3. Mix wet ingredients (1 minute)
Add 1 egg, 60g melted butter, 100g brown sugar, and 1 tsp vanilla. Stir until combined.

4. Add dry ingredients (2 minutes)
Mix in 150g flour, 1 tsp baking soda, ¼ tsp salt.
Stir just until combined—don’t overmix. Fold in chocolate chips or nuts if you’re using them.

5. Bake (50–55 minutes)
Pour into the prepared loaf pan. Bake for 50–55 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Let cool for at least 15 minutes before slicing (we know, it’s hard).

Pro Tip

The darker your bananas, the sweeter and more flavorful your bread.
